Philosophy: It is my personal philosophy to encourage students to enjoy playing their instrument as much as I enjoy teaching. However, I expect a certain level of participation from each student. They should come prepared to lessons each week and spend sufficient time practicing at home. I realize that many of my students will be participating in other activities, and I will work to facilitate the level of commitment that suits the student. I do expect participation in the school music program whenever possible, and encourage participation in outside ensembles as well as local sponsored adjudicated events.
Everything listed above is a guideline, not a policy. I try to be as flexible as possible in the best interest of the student's musical growth. I feel strongly that all of my students should enjoy playing and performing, no matter what level of commitment they choose to have in music. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to address them directly with me.
Scheduling: Currently, I am scheduling all lessons on Sunday afternoon. I find that this day provides the least amount of conflict with other activities. I try to keep lesson times flexible. If you have a time conflict, I would rather reschedule the lesson than cancel it. I will always do my best to work around your schedule. While there is always another adult present during the lesson, you can feel free to sit in on your child's lesson if you wish. Please try to refrain from bringing other children, as this can prove to be a distraction during the lesson.
Fees: My standard rate is $25 for a half-hour lesson. If your child is interested in a longer lesson, I can provide that at a negotiable rate, but keep in mind that a longer lesson means more materials to work on during the week. I prefer to accept payment at the beginning of each month covering the lessons for that month. If you know in advance that you cannot attend a specific date, you do not need to pay for that date. If you have other needs, please let me know, and I will be as flexible as possible.
Cancellations: If you need to cancel a lesson, please try to cancel at least the day before. This allows me to plan out my schedule in advance. Barring any emergencies, I will always try to provide the same courtesy to you. If you cancel the day before, I will not charge for that lesson, and will credit the amount already paid for towards the next month. Materials: You may feel free to purchase any lesson materials that are required. As a service to my students, I make occasional trips to the music store to purchase materials, which I will resell to you at my cost. I also keep some materials on hand for resale, also at my cost. I do not sell materials at a profit.
